Introduction
As previously Bursalah community development organization (BCDO), and Ministry of Education (MOE) in Puntland, settled that each part will play its roles and responsibilities, BCDO is all ready to move forward and come with its part as already began to enrol girls based on the criteria set forth and now in the process of planning to hire hostel staff so as to start the hostel functionality earliest.
BCDO is ready and committed to paying some amount of running cost of personnel staff of the Girl’s Center, which about minimum $ $450 from local business, and Diaspora of the community support commitments. However, the monthly payment of the personnel is $1450 per month while the remaining amount is projected to run the day-to-day costs of the hostel food purchase, personal health, washing and cleaning commodities, and miscellaneous expenses, while we expect donors for school fee and partially committed to complementing hostel meals.
The below table show in detailed budget breakdown for the amount that we expect from donors, diasporas and local business contributions.
Objective
The gender disparities still persist in rural areas, particularly among the disadvantaged communities like poor families, single-headed household, pastoral communities and recently drought-affected pastoral and Minorities. Significant gaps in enrolment of girls at the elementary and secondary levels as compared to boys are visible. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to bring the girl child to school and to retain her in school by preserving newly constructed hostel. The project thus envisages setting up of hostels with lodging and boarding facilities close to the secondary and primary school premises and areas nearing concentration of above-target groups so that the girl students are not denied the opportunity to continue their study due to societal factors. Another objective of the project is to support the transition of girls like girls completed their elementary school in nearby villages who have no access to secondary school nearby can also benefit this hostel/boarding facility.
Target Group
The girl students in the age group 10-19 studying in classes/grade 7 to Grade 12 and belonging to the above-mentioned criteria such as poor family background, orphan, single-headed households, female-headed household, and drought-affected pastoral communities and minorities. Enrollment and boarding have not cost related to the families due to their financial constraints and also around half of them at least belong to and transferred long distance villages and the border of Ethiopia.
