BURSALAH BOREHOLE PROJECT: DRILLING PHASE COMPLETED

Read Horn of Africa has succeeded to complete the drilling phase of the Borehole project started in Bursalah, Mudug, Puntland State , Somalia . This phase was the most difficult and expensive stage. The project cost amounted to over $80K to date. It was financed by a joint partnership between Read Horn of Africa and UNICEF.

UNICEF contributed to the project by providing equipments costing in access of $30,000 USD, while Read Horn of Africa covered the rest of the costs to date. However, UNICEF promised to invest more on the project by building water tanks, providing engines and other water distribution facilities.

The project is expected to contribute significantly to the well being and the overall welfare of the children in the school and the college by providing access to clean water and much increased hygiene levels. In addition, the area is densely populated by nomads and livestock herders in need of water. Besides, the new Borehole will reduce the dependence on the only other Borehole in the area which frequently breaks down resulting in serious water shortages.

The project has already boosted the local economy and generated more business for the local community. It is expected to generate more income for the school as well.
